Mark Millar Wants Bradley Cooper To Play Johnny Bolt In 'Supercrooks'

The Playlist By Benjamin Wright | The Playlist October 26, 2012 at 1:43PM

Our distaste for comics writer and new 20th Century Fox creative consultant Mark Millar’s constant need to exaggerate is well-documented. While the man is certainly not without talent, his ability to ramble about projects that either never come to pass or arrive in a completely different form than he’s mentioned is uncanny, and sometimes he even comments on projects he has nothing to do with. Still, Hollywood loves adapting his comics like “Wanted,” “Kick-Ass,” and eventually “Nemesis,” and as we said, Fox pretty much just handed over the key to their Marvel heroes in some regards as he’ll be overseeing their films. Suffice to say, Twitter has aided Millar in spreading these exaggerations, and lately he’s been going on about his latest project, “Supercrooks,” which he now says is targeting an A-list star.

Still, Hollywood loves adapting his comics like “Wanted,” “Kick-Ass,” and eventually Nemesis,” and as we said, Fox pretty much just handed over the key to their Marvel heroes in some regards as he’ll be overseeing their films. Suffice to say, Twitter has aided Millar in spreading these exaggerations, and lately he’s been going on about his latest project, “Supercrooks,” which he now says is targeting an A-list star.

Millar wrote the original miniseries of “Supercrooks,” which serves as more superhero deconstruction as a group of supervillains in Spain attempt to pull off a heist while there are no heroes around to stop them, only everything goes horribly wrong. "I just found out that Bradley Cooper and I are with the same agency. Getting on the phone about Supercrooks tonight. Stay tuned," he put tweeted.

"Timecrimes” helmer Nacho Vigalando is already on board as a helmer, and Millar elaborates on his forums, "We've got a great director, a great screenplay and as of Christmas we'll have time to start prepping this sucker. Who we gonna call? Bradley Cooper." Humble, indeed. He goes on to say, "I am literally calling up his guys tomorrow and want to secure him as Johnny Bolt. It's about time he did a super-movie and having him as a likeable supervillain in a super-heist flick sounds about perfect.” Jonny Bolt is the name of the lead supervillian in Millar’s comic series, who’s both charismatic and ruthless all at once, and actually a role we could totally see Cooper warming to. Looks like the hunt is on.

There’s a pretty good chance this will never come to pass, but Millar has rounded up some solid talent for his films before, and we certainly don’t doubt he could do it again. Cooper would certainly be a nice fit for the role of Bolt, we just wish that Millar would tell us about this when it was set in stone, rather than dragging us and his other admirers along through his dreamcasting process.
