Pretty soon, all your media will belong to Marvel. With comic studio conquering the multiplex, and establishing that for the next few years, barely six months will go by without another superhero movie to promote or release, they are now turning their sights to TV. Next week, "Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D." will kick off on ABC, and it seems that's just the tipping point of what could be much more serialized adventures.
Deadline reveals Peggy Carter, already given an extended life thanks to the straight-to-DVD short "Marvel One Shot: Agent Carter," is now being eyed for her own series. And that's about it, really. Details are scarce as the show is still in very early stages, but presumably it'll follow the same post-"Captain America: The First Avenger" timeline, with Peggy turning secret agent and kicking ass. More crucially, it's unknown if Hayley Atwell will reprise her part for the series, although our sources tell us she will be back, with shooting to take place next year.
And really, this is a pretty good idea and we could see this being indicative of how Marvel rolls out some of their B level and C level characters. Introduce them in the feature movies, see if they work and resonate, and if so, build them out further on TV, where you can given them the space to develop further.
So we'll see how this goes, but a pulpy, period-set Marvel spy series? Yeah, that could be pretty fun.
