'Metallica Through The Never' Soundtrack Brings Out The Hits With "Ride The Lightning," "Master Of Puppets" & More

It seems slightly redundant for Billboard to refer to Metallica's plans for their forthcoming album “Metallica Through The Never (Music from the Motion Picture)” as “old school”: surely everything that Metallica do is old school? Simply by waking up every morning and continuing to rock, just months before his 50th birthday, Lars Ulrich is old school.

Metallica Through The Never

It seems slightly redundant for Billboard to refer to Metallica's plans for their forthcoming album “Metallica Through The Never (Music from the Motion Picture)” as “old school”: surely everything that Metallica do is old school? Simply by waking up every morning and continuing to rock, just months before his 50th birthday, Lars Ulrich is old school.

But just to make a point, Metallica are releasing the aforementioned new album digitally, on CD, and on two different vinyl formats. Vinyl, children, is a way of listening to music invented by the ancient Egyptians and perfected in the 3rd century BC. The album will feature some songs from Metallica's glory days, like “For Whom The Bell Tolls” and “Master of Puppets” as well as more recent material, all of them recorded at two concerts last year in Canada.

But wait, has the Playlist suddenly become a music site (as its name might actually suggest)? Why are you even reading about this? Never fear, there is a cinematic link here: the album is in fact timed to accompany the band's upcoming concert film “Metallica: Through the Never,” coming to IMAX September 27th and more theatres the week after.

Did we say “concert film”? Well, sorta. The film will incorporate concert footage, but it will also – somehow – involved an absolutely batshit narrative plot featuring a mysterious masked horseman and a post-apocalyptic landscape. Dude, did you know that there's this, like, totally metal chapter at the end of the Bible, with all this crazy stuff about the end of the frickin' world? You should totally check it out. Or, check this out instead, for more plot madness and a trailer. Soundtrack details below — it hits stores on September 24th.
