Having recently wrapped "Knights Of Cups" in L.A., a story about a man's temptations, celebrity and excess that stars Christian Bale, Natalie Portman, Cate Blanchett, Isabelle Lucas (at least in its principal cast), recluse filmmaker turned speedy auteur, Terrence Malick is now in Austin, Texas shooting his next picture, formerly known as "Lawless" (Malick was kind enough to let his friend John Hillcoat take the name for his gangster drama that came out late August).

Untitled for now, the film follows two intersecting love triangles and is a story of sexual obsession and betrayal set against Austin's vibrant and colorful music scene. This picture also stars Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett and Natalie Portman, in addition to leads Ryan Gosling, Rooney Mara ("The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo") and Haley Bennett. Moving at a speedy pace and shooting on the quick, since every actor in Hollywood is dying to have the experience of working in a Terrence Malick movie (even if the chances are high they won't make the final cut), the director has had myriad thespians drop by in both recent films for what are likely small day parts and cameos. Holly Hunter was the latest actor spotted  frolicking in Malick's new drama and today a photo, albeit a blurry one, has surfaced of Michael Fassbender ("Shame") on set next to Ryan Gosling (ladies will love this one). Fassbender had been shooting Ridley Scott's "The Counselor" in London (it resumed production on September 3) but it's unclear whether this role will be anything more than a glorified cameo (seems doubtful), but we really won't know until further details surface or someone corners the "Prometheus" star.

Fassbender will be likely be seen next in "Twelve Years A Slave" which should arrive sometime in 2013.  Production should begin later this year on "X-Men: Days Of Future Past," the sequel to "X-Men: First Class" Following those roles the actor of Irish/German extraction will appear in Lenny Abrahamson's "Frank" and Lynne Ramsay's "Jane Got A Gun." Malick's most recently completed film, "To The Wonder" was just acquired by Magnolia pictures for a 2013 release. [BrownGirlsLoveFassy/Sci-Fi Fantasy]

Dear "Jane"-- You can see in this photo on set that Fassbender and Gosling are close in height. LOL to you.

All except Portman and Bale are really overrated. Gosling and Fassbender are trying really hard to be Hollywood, Gosling has really sold out. First the plastic surgery to look more marketable and the fake hollywood girlfriend. He has sold his soul to his publicists and Fassbender is more known for his penis than is acting.

Mallick is just Taylor Swift in pants, completely nuts.

You're kind of a dumbass. I don't see why Ryan Gosling's girlfriend or Michael Fassbender's penis (I can't believe I just said that) have anything to do with their acting ability.

Anyone know if they will be filming at the Austing City Limits music festival this weekend?

He was finished in Spain well over a week ago and LOL at anyone believing IMDb for celeb heights. The guy is about 5'10.

  • Finn | October 9, 2012 12:19 PMReply

Actually Fassbender's most recently been in Spain shooting The Counselor (before that London, but also said to be then shooting in Utah and Hollywood). That looks like more than the inch difference in their heights...and rather like PS to me.

Who is the photographer? It would be great to hear from the person that took this photo. IF this isn't a PS job that is. Also a reliable source from Michael's camp and/or from this film stating he is in fact doing a cameo or just visiting the film set. I do find it interesting that he is in a suit either way. Looks much like the suits he is wearing in The Counselor.

This will surely end up on the cutting room... Really surprised Fassbender took a role in a malick film as he listened to Chris Plummer talk about how he would never work with Malick again after his New World experience.

Fassbender is desperate for universal attention/praise and for the Academy Awards recognition. Working with celebrated directors is a way to get it. Plus, Fassbender and Gosling are two of the most overrated actors in the business right now, so it makes sense to see the two of them together.

And yet the lead actor for these projects is one who has worked with Malick before and has come back for more. Different strokes for different folks people.

  • d | October 7, 2012 11:06 PM

I'm sure everyone is aware by now of the issues actors have had with Malick in the past. Some have a problem with the way he works, others don't.

WOW, as it is announced it will be a story about love triangles, I hope for a threesome between Fassy, Cate Blanchett and Gosling. That would actually be hot!

  • caro | October 8, 2012 9:42 AM
