Mike Judge's HBO Pilot 'Silicon Valley' Adds T.J. Miller & Thomas Middleditch

The Playlist By Joe Cunningham | The Playlist January 31, 2013 at 5:58PM

T.J. Miller and Thomas Middleditch are both familiar faces who you've seen pop up in various movies and TV shows during the last few years. Miller’s biggest roles have been in “Cloverfield,” “She’s Out of My League” and “Yogi Bear,” and we've already sung his praises for his turn in the short "Successful Alcoholics." Meanwhile, you may recognize Middleditch from “The Campaign,” “Fun Size” (where he was the best thing in it, by a country mile) and a whole host of CollegeHumor shorts. They’ve both already shown tons of comedic promise, and it looks like their faces are going to become a whole lot more familiar, after being cast in Mike Judge’s single-camera comedy pilot, “Silicon Valley.”

HBO have ordered the dark comedy pilot from creator/exec-producer Judge and fellow producer Scott Rudin. The pilot will be set in the “high tech gold rush of modern Silicon Valley, where the people most qualified to succeed are the least capable of handling success.” Miller is set to play Elrich, who owns the Hacker House, an intelligent yet self-satisfied and totally unself-aware character…which makes this sound like perfect casting. Middleditch, meanwhile, will play Thomas; a focused and intelligent guy who writes software code but who lacks self-confidence. When put together, we can only imagine that hilarity ensues.

After nailing the deadening world of everyday work in "Office Space," we're both excited and wary with Judge returning to that well for what feels like a modern spin on the same milieu. But if he can nail it, HBO may have another comedy hit on their hands. [Deadline]
