While she may be best known for her role in the successful
ABC sitcom “
Modern Family,” it appears
Sofia Vergara’s looking to make her mark on the big screen as well. Yesterday
we saw her featured in this character one sheet for
Robert Rodriguez’s “
Machete Kills” and if you thought that was enough, now she will be joining
Jason Statham in “
Heat,” a remake of the 1986
Burt Reynolds-lead film.
The remake’s to be directed by
Simon West (“
Con Air”, “
Expendables 2”) who replaced
Brian De Palma last fall. This version of the story follows Nick Escalante (played by Statham) whose compulsive gambling has led him to the streets of Vegas. There, he takes odd jobs to help support his addiction. But when a friend of his is brutally beaten, Nick’s left with no choice but to take on the mob.
Vergara is normally known for her comedic chops so it will be interesting to see her stretch herself in a dramatic role here. No word on when “Heat” will start filming, but we’ll most likely find that out soon enough. [

Oh, thank Christ, I thought it might be a remake of the Michael Mann film.
