Mumford & Sons Member Helped Record The Soundtrack For The Coen Brothers' 'Inside Llewyn Davis'

One movie we hoped might squeak its way onto the release calendar in 2012 was the Coen Brothers' upcoming "Inside Llewyn Davis." The sibling directors have lined up a killer cast for this one with Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Justin Timberlake and Garrett Hedlund in the pic that's loosely based on the life of Dave van Ronk, an American folk singer who presided over the ‘60s Greenwich Village scene. And as you might expect from that brief description, music is going to be a big part of the movie, and it seems a member of one of the most popular bands around is helping out.

"We got to go to the studio beforehand with Justin Timberlake and Marcus Mumford, who were a big part of the recording of the music, and we got to jam and play a whole lot. It was just heaven," Isaac enthused to Complex about the music in the movie. Of course, Marcus Mumford happens to be the frontman of Mumford & Sons and Mulligan's better half as well, but as for tunes in the picture, it seems it will be staying very period specfic.

"...it takes place in the '60s, and it’s all focused on all old folk songs that have been passed down for years and years and years, so there actually aren’t any new songs in there," the actor explained, who if you'll remember, has already showed off his considerable singing pipes in the indie flick "10 Years."

And while we wait for details on when we might see the movie, Showbiz 411 is reporting that the movie is finished and has already screened for some select and special folks (probably those close with the directorial team). And the response seems to be positive, with the picture "said to be unlike most Coen brothers movies – no violence, no sex, no weird irony." Huh.

Guess we'll have to be patient yet for this movie, but we'd wager a Cannes Film Festival bow -- where they've screened seven of their films to date, most recently "No Country For Old Men" -- seems pretty logical at this point. Listen to Isaac sing "Dink's Song" from the movie below.
