Excited for Neill Blomkamp's follow-up to his smash hit "District 9"? Well, you're going to have to wait.
THR reports that "Elysium" will land in theaters on the distant date of March 8, 2013, which will be a long Easter weekend. Starring Matt Damon, Sharlto Copley, Jodie Foster and Wagner Moura, details on the script are being kept under lock and key, but it's set 100 years in the future and will have a social commentary element. Damon will be playing an ex-con while Moura will be the villain in the film. Also on board is legendary "Blade Runner" designer Syd Mead who will be handling set design for the picture.
No other films are on that spring date set two years from now, and with the gauntlet being thrown down on that weekend you can expect other tentpoles to schedule around it rather than compete. And while the wait for a new Blomkamp film will be a long one, don't be too bummed out. He's already planned his follow-up project, "Chappie," which he plans to shoot once "Elysium" is in the can.

What? But I thought original, big budget movies didn't get made and film was dead? and only sequels and reboots were coming out?
