Terra Nova Arrested Development

It’s the tale of two Fox television shows that never quite cut it on the major network, with “Terra Nova” barely squeaking out one season, but the cult-adored “Arrested Development” making it to three (with a film project and new series in the pipeline).

First, “Terra Nova” may not have that extra lifeline that fans were hoping for, as it looks like Netflix is going to pass on bringing the prehistoric family drama to its subscription-based services. Netflix started thinking about adding the series to its repertoire of upcoming scripted shows, but perhaps a storied production that included a $10 million-$20 million budget on its twice-delayed two-hour premiere, got the service, which is still reeling from some poor business decisions last year, to rethink the proposition.

“STEVE HOLT,” is a cry that many fans of “Arrested Development” are familiar with, but they were shocked to discover the character of Holt wouldn’t actually be returning to the cast as the show comes back for a fourth season on Netflix. While Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, David Cross, Michael Cera, Jessica Walters, Jeffrey Tambor, Tony Hale, Alia Shawkat and Portia de Rossi are all reprising their roles, the illegitimate son of George Oscar Bluth Jr. (Arnett), Steve Holt has been unlawfully excised from the series’ returning cast. Though rest assured “Arrested Development” fans won’t let that happen, and are working hard to have actor Justin Grant Wade return, starting an online campaign with a Save Steve Holt website, blog, Facebook page, and Twitter account where fans can now exclaim their love for Holt with the hashtag “#savesteveholt” and 140 characters.

We see where the love is on this one, with fans rallying behind “Arrested Development” for even the most seemingly insignificant details, while “Terra Nova” quickly falls by the wayside. As staunch fans of “Arrested Development” ouselves we can’t say we disagree with the one being preferred to the other here. [THR/IFC]

Wow I went to elementary school with the guy who plays Steve Holt and he is a great guy. I'd love to see him come back!

I don’t exactly know why Netflix is picking up these failed shows from network TV, but it goes to prove (to me at least) that all eyes are on Network TV if Netflix is getting their sloppy seconds. I watch more network TV like most, and I have to get my HD locals from DISH because my antenna reception is crappy in Denver. Now I love how my Hopper whole-home DVR automatically records the locals between 7-10 p.m. so I have an “on demand” selection for eight days. When I heard about the feature from my employer, DISH, I was excited to be able to record six shows at once during that time. Netflix can have their sloppy seconds, I have the shows that are “actually” good.
