Maps To The Stars

Next week, the Cannes Film Festival will unveil their slate for 2014, and one movie you can put good money on being there is David Cronenberg's "Maps To The Stars." The director continues his run of psychological dramas/thrillers with another change in direction, one that moves away from the more traditional (for Cronenberg) "A Dangerous Method" and the contained "Cosmopolis," while reuniting him with his new muse, Robert Pattinson.

Co-starring John Cusack, Julianne Moore, Mia Wasikowska, Olivia Williams and Sarah Gadon, the Bruce Wagner-penned film follows the Weiss family, a Hollywood dynasty where each member has their own array of problems, with drugs, pyromania and ghostly visions all in the mix. And a new image of Wasikowska's Agatha, recently released from a sanitorium, has arrived along with an Italian teaser poster (via Thinking Of Rob) which reveals the movie will be out in Italy shortly before Cannes wraps up.

As for the U.S., there's no distributor or release date yet but as Cannes draws closer, that would all change eOne will release the film, but no date has been set just yet. And fyi, it has already been rated R.

    Anyone want the script?

The pic of Mia was snapped by Caitlin Cronenberg, David's daughter.

This movie looks amazing; now if only the higher-ups would quit dicking around and get it into Cannes already.

That's right - Cronenberg's daughter takes stills while filming. His sister, Denise Cronenberg, has done costumes for his films for years. I think it will be in Cannes - they love Cronenberg over there, he's appreciated for his greatness. I predict this film is going to rock - it's David Cronenberg, so it's going to take no prisoners. Mia Wasikowska also looks like she's going to do some damage. I'm glad Pattison is back, he was actually great in "Cosmopolis", it took away the stench of "Twilight", which I'm sure was his plan - he's an actual actor.

Awesomely unfair, David Cronenberg gets no recognition in Hollywood.

I think this could end up being a really great movie - wonderful cast. I love Cronenberg. Interesting to see Moore and Wasikowska back together after "The Kids Are Alright". I get the feeling the kids are NOT alright from this pic - Mia really does look like a mental patient.
