"Elysium," the latest from "District 9" writer/director Neill Blomkamp, has finally been brought kicking and screaming into the public view, with the first trailer dropping last night. And the result? Looks pretty damn epic, no? But don't get too confident you've seen everything yet. Blomkamp likely still wants to keep some surprises in store, but a few more new images have arrived to give another peek at the sci-fi world being put together.

Set in 2154 (or is 2159? The trailer and official site can't seem to agree), the film follows Max (Matt Damon), who's got five days to live, and decides to sneak his way into the pristine space station Elysium to get the cancer curing treatment he can't receive on a ravaged Earth. Of course, that doesn't go over so well and a bearded Sharlto Copley is sent to stop him. Yes, it's the usual blend of social issues and popcorn ready entertainment we've come to expect from Blomkamp, a mix you won't find in your average Marvel movie.

"Elysium" arrives on August 9th and will hopefully cap off the summer with a bang.
