With Neill Blomkamp's "Elysium" pushed back to a late summer release, we're going to have to be a bit more patient before we see anything substantial from the heavily guarded film. But Sony has provided a small new taste to tide us over for now.

A new pic of Matt Damon in the film has emerged, and it's a variation of the first image, with the bald actor wielding that Chemrail gun. As you'll recall, the picture is set in 2159,  with Damon playing a man who takes on a daunting mission in a world where the very wealthy live on the pristine, man-made space station called Elysium, and fight to keep the citizens of Earth from illegally immigrating. Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, William Fichtner, Alice Braga, Diego Luna and Wagner Moura round out the cast for the picture that will also feature the work of "Blade Runner" designer Syd Mead.

"Elysium" opens on August 9, 2013. Take a look below. [ScreenCrush]

It's so inspiring to see these action blockbusters like The Dark Knight Rises and Elysium tackling the real-world issue themes of social warfare. This is one to watch! I bet this is going to be a political allegory as socially relevant as District 9, if not more.
