The second image of this crop also features Annette Bening, and is from "Ginger & Rosa," a picture that was just announced this morning as part of the Telluride Film Festival line-up. While it's not the most well-known movie of the bunch, reasons to pay attention to this one are myriad. For one, it's directed by Sally Potter, who came to fame in 1992 with "Orlando" and it's her first picture since 2009's "Rage." The picture stars the always-engaging Elle Fanning and Alice Englert, and its supporting cast -- featuring Bening, Alessandro Nivola, Christina Hendricks, Timothy Spall, Oliver Platt, and Jodhi May -- is pretty damn good too.
"Ginger & Rosa" sounds like an interesting mix of tones, as the picture centers on the lifelong friendship of two teenage girls (Fanning, Englert) that is shattered by ideological differences and personal betrayals, and its setting is evidently the start of the burgeoning sexual revolution in 1960s London. It screens in Telluride this weekend and will also be at the Toronto Film Festival next week.
