It’s a testament to how great of an actor Christian Bale is: the year is almost over, but two of the most anticipated films from what's left of 2013 both star this “The Dark Knight Rises” actor. One of the films, “Out of The Furnace” we’ve seen (read our AFI review here). The other, “American Hustle” is still under wraps (though the first clip from the film arrived earlier today), so dig in a little deeper.
Directed by David O. Russell ("Silver Linings Playbook," "The Fighter"), "American Hustle" is a crime drama that stars Bale along with the stellar cast of Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence and Jeremy Renner. And that's just the movie's main stars. The picture also features appearances by Robert De Niro, "Boardwalk Empire" star Jack Huston, Michael Peña, Elisabeth Röhm, Louis C.K. and Alessandro Nivola among others.
Here's the official synopsis:
A fictional film set in the alluring world of one of the most stunning scandals to rock our nation, American Hustle tells the story of brilliant con man Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale), who along with his equally cunning and seductive British partner Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams) is forced to work for a wild FBI agent Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper). DiMaso pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia that's as dangerous as it is enchanting. Jeremy Renner is Carmine Polito, the passionate, volatile, New Jersey political operator caught between the con-artists and Feds. Irving's unpredictable wife Rosalyn (Jennifer Lawrence) could be the one to pull the thread that brings the entire world crashing down. Like David O. Russell's previous films, American Hustle defies genre, hinging on raw emotion, and life and death stakes.
