Summer is for love and also for heartbreak, and both will be served up in Sarah Polley's sophomore feature film "Take This Waltz," a raw and tender look at a relationship under strain.
The film stars Michelle Williams and Seth Rogen as a young married couple, who find their bond tested when the former becomes attracted a new man played by Luke Kirby. Though not without minor complaints, pretty much everyone on the Playlist staff who has seen the film have liked it immensely, and really, it's James Rocchi's review from TIFF that hits the nail on the head in terms of the sharp and incisive lens Polley puts her characters under: " 'Take This Waltz' is also, for lack of better words, infuriating and troubling -- not because of what it gets 'wrong,' but because the things it gets right are buried under your skin like a splinter you can't dislodge, tearing at the nerves and flesh," he wrote. So yes, Polley knows exactly the nuance and complications of young people in adult relationships.
There is a reason we slated the movie on our Most Anticipated Indie Films Of The Summer list. You can watch it in the comfort of your own home on May 25th on demand or June 29th in theaters. New pictures from the film below. [Kinopoisk/Facebook]
