Disney hopes to revitalize the western despite the failures of “John Carter” (although apparently Mars sunk that one) and Universal’s "Cowboys & Aliens." With that, the adaptation of “The Lone Ranger” continues to invade quietly with various posters and trailers that aren’t as bombastic as expected for a movie coming out during the coveted 4th of July weekend. A few more character posters have been discovered on top of the TV spot that came out a few days ago. These posters show off the makeup and gritty realism of villain Butch Cavendish (William Fichtner) and Latham Cole (Tom Wilkinson). The attention to detail and the way these looks like old-time, ripped paper is nice, although I have to wonder if the use of Instagram filters have lessened the impact.
Starring Armie Hammer and Johnny Depp as legendary heroes John Reid/The Lone Ranger and his partner Tonto, respectively, the origin story details how Reid became the titled hero. It’s based off the 1949 series starring Clayton Moore and Jay Silverheels.
