10 Essential Cinematic Antiheroes
James Gunn‘s superhero parody, the appropriately titled “Super,” premiered last year at TIFF where it received some strong reviews and landed a distribution deal with IFC. We missed it at the fest but we've liked what we've seen so far and it looks like the first film in a while that will nail a very tricky genre. With its SXSW bow just around the corner, Gunn has debuted a new poster on his site in the style of the folded-up flyers its hero puts up around town.
The film tells the story of an average guy (Rainn Wilson) who transforms into pseudo-superhero The Crimson Bolt after his wife Sarah (Liv Tyler) leaves him for a smooth-talking drug dealer named Jacques (Kevin Bacon). Joined by sociopathic teen-turned-sidekick Libby (Ellen Page), the two begin to wage war on crime and plot to bring down Jacques. Nathan Fillion and Linda Cardellini round out the cast.
The film arrives in SXSW next month and hits theaters on April 1st. Full poster below.
