'Oblivion' & 'Tron: Legacy' Director Joseph Kosinski Travels To 'The Twilight Zone'

While the anticipated sequel (well, anticipated by nerds) to "Tron: Legacy" remains a thing that might happen at Disney (though we think with their slate full of Marvel movies and "Star Wars" sequels, it's probably not a big priority), director Joseph Kosinski is looking at some other options for his follow-up to this spring's sci-fi "Oblivion." And it looks like he wants to enter another dimension...a dimension of sound, a dimension of sight, a dimension of mind.

THR reports that he's signing the paperwork to helm the long-brewing "The Twilight Zone" for Warner Bros. This has been kicking around for a while, with Matt Reeves once attached to direct it a couple years back. And while Tony Peckham ("Invictus, "Sherlock Holmes," "Book of Eli") was tapped to pen the script at one point, they are basically redeveloping the movie to fit Kosinski's sensibilities, which after two films, seems to be architecturally perfect shiny surfaces. Leonardo DiCaprio is producing this thing through his Appian Way shingle, so that's interesting, and while there are no plot details yet, back in the day it was said the movie would forgo the anthology format of the original show and 1983 movie.

No word yet on how this will effect (or not) the reboot of the TV show over at CBS that gained Bryan Singer as a producer at the end of last year, about which not much has been heard since. Either way, on the big screen or small, some very freaky stories will be making a comeback.

Unfortunate since the original Twilight Zone is my favourite TV show and Oblivion was absolutely horrible and confused originality with stealing from 5 different movies.

Great move to have a director who has proven himself totally devoid of storytelling ability after 2 projects with massive potential to be handed a movie whose principal hook is… telling a great story.

Gabe, IMHO this is a great move! Kosinski has proven he can't handle anything longer than a TV commercial. If they go back to the anthology style (a style I love, personally), I think Kosinski will be able to bring put his "gee whiz CGI boner" to good use, and he won't buckle under the weight of narrative (as he has proven is his thing). I bet this guy has a couple slick, killer shorts in him -- which is why (again, IMHO) he seems like a solid Twilight Zone helmer. Kudos, WB!
