Quentin Tarantino Says He Wanted To Make A 'Luke Cage' Film Starring Lawrence Fishburne After 'Reservoir Dogs'; Wrote 'Pulp Fiction' Instead

Add one more to the pile. Quentin Tarantino's "what if?" abandoned projects list is long. Ideas that he once toyed with included more Elmore Leonard adaptations, the James Bond film “Casino Royale,” “The Man from U.N.C.L.E,” an untitled '70s-like airplane/disaster movie and more (you can see a longer list in this old detailed feature we made back in the day).

And yet evidently there was one more up his sleeve. Talking to MTV, the "Django Unchained" director revealed he once wanted to make a super hero film. “After Resevoir Dogs, I had considered doing a Luke Cage hero for hire movie," Tarantino said when asked if he had ever considered making a type of blockbuster film that wasn't one of his originally scripted ideas. "Ed Pressman owned it at that time and we talked about it. And I talked with Larry Fishburne about being Luke Cage and he really liked that idea."

Something else ended up distracting the filmmaker, however. "Then I ended up writing 'Pulp Fiction’,” he laughed, almost horrified of the idea that he could have passed up that milestone work up for an adaptation of someone else's work. “My kinda feeling is if I wanted to do something like that, I’d create a super hero myself.” Bonus question from MTV. I could see that movie being pretty good. But the idea of Tarantino creating a superhero seems pretty interesting. I like to think The Bride is somewhat of a superhero in her own right.
