If you remember, way, way back in October a bunch of names were said to be in the mix for the female lead in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier." Among them were "Game Of Thrones" stars Emilia Clarke, Jessica Brown-Findlay of "Downton Abbey" fame, Alison Brie, rising thesps Teresa Palmer and Imogen Poots, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Now, nearly three months later, the job has been filled by...none of those people...
Instead, "Revenge" star Emily VanCamp has bagged the role. The actress has been steadily on the rise, mostly on TV, where she broke out in "Everwood." And while there has been some big screen work in fare like "The Ring Two," "Carriers" and the criminally underseen indie "Norman," the ABC show has put her back on the radar, and this will certainly boost her profile. As for what the role in the Marvel movie actually is, that's not clear just yet, but we'll let you more comic savvy types speculate away.
The Russo Brothers-directed movie starts shooting this summer and will hit theaters on April 4, 2014.
