Richard Jenkins is awesome, and that's pretty much all you need to know. The longstanding character actor pretty much classes up the joint and becomes the best thing to watch when he's slumming it in stuff like "Hall Pass" or "Eat Pray Love," but give him material like "Let Me In" or "The Visitor" and he'll show you what he can do. But despite nearly 100 credits to his name there are two things Jenkins hasn't really done before: a Tom Cruise movie or a potential franchise. Well, that's all about to change.
Variety reports that Jenkins has joined the upcoming "One Shot." Based on the best-selling book by Lee Child (one of many in the series), and set to be directed and written by Christopher McQuarrie, the story finds ex-military man and drifter Jack Reacher (Cruise) drawn into the case of a military sniper accused of five murders and discovers a twisty cover-up along the way. Rosamund Pike is on board as Helen Rodin, the attorney who defends the accused man and Jenkins will play her father Alex Rodin, the District Attorney in town who is prosecuting the case. David Oyelowo rounds out the current cast, playing a homicide detective in charge of investigating the killings. Cruise sure knows how to pick 'em.
Filming will get underway this fall, but you'll have to wait a while as it's not slated to hit theaters until February 8, 2013.
