Sony has picked up the rights to Neil Strauss' book "Emergency!: This Book Will Save Your Life" as a producing and potential starring vehicle for Robert Downey Jr.
The outlandish premise of the book follows Strauss when "concerned about the state of the world, moved his family offshore and remade himself as a survivalist. He became a lock-picking, plane-flying, government-defying guy. This put him a spiral of paranoid fantasies and in proximity of shady lawyers and dangerous cult leaders, billionaire gun nuts and a number of once-normal people whose doubts about the establishment prompted them to move their families into a ridiculous life path." Sounds like some great material for Downey Jr., and Strauss, best known for his seduction community book "The Game," knows how to spin a story.
Hollywood's favorite writer these days, Allan Loeb ("The Switch," "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps"), will write the screenplay after which we imagine Downey Jr. will decide if it's something he wants to star in. The actor also has the former Steve McQueen heist project "Yucatan" also in development as a potential picture as well. [Deadline]
