Ian McDiarmid Star Wars

Last weekend was D23, Disney's annual celebration of itself and their movies, and when it ended without any word regarding "Star Wars: Episode 7," some corners of the Internet were positively hurt and angry. A sense of entitlement reigned from some fans who saw it as a some kind of colossal blunder on Disney's part not to throw some scrap of information about the sequel to the diehard faithful. While the discussion about fans demanding everything right away is best saved for another day, here's a new rumor they can take to the message boards tonight.

According to Latino Review, Ian McDiarmid is slated to return (kind of, sorta) as Emperor/Senator Palpatine in the J.J. Abrams-directed follow-up. Again, this is just a rumor but the theory goes that he won't be a human or a clone, but he'll return "as a Force Ghost..like Obi Wan. (Sith Lords learned similar techniques, which in some cases allowed them to physically interact with their environment.)" This is so exciting, we might just wet our Underoos. Anyway, it's worth remembering that the script by Michael Arndt isn't taking any cues from the numerous books or comics, so your guess is as good as ours as to what this all means.

Anyway, debate amongst yourselves. Is this just one step toward getting the whole gang back together? Does this mean the return of Darth Maul? Let us know what you think below.

It is interesting, the recurring rumor of Ted Danson starring in Episode 7 as a disciple of lord sith Palpatine. Danson's significant acting prowess will lead episode 7's charge to box off ice glory. In a stunning turn of events sith Ted Danson confronts force ghost Qui-Gon and resurrects a hybrid Vader/Ted Danson Jedi hybrid. Absolute riveting plot spoilers, folks.

Qui-Gon and Plagueis both independently learned the secret of becoming a force ghost. Qui-Gon, from beyond the grave, teaches Yoda and Obi-Wan how to do it. Palpatine and Anakin discover the secret on their own, however, because by the time Plagueis is murdered by Palpatine, he has lost all his power and can no longer become a ghost. You need to be very linked in with the force in order to exist beyond your "natural" death. This is why Anakin is a ghost at the end of ROTJ, even though Qui-Gon would've never taught Darth Vader this secret.

Holocrons will have something to do with it I bet!

I heard that Ted Danson is in the running to take over Ian McDiarmid's role as Emperor. JJ must figure a way to integrate the massive talent of Ted Danson if Episode 7 is to meet expectations.

As much as I love the Palpatine character, I don't he should be in episode 7. I think it would be better to have the (ghost) voice of Palpatine in episode 8 or 9 or both 8 & 9. And if they do that they should expand it further with siths and jedis throughout star wars history. So you'd have your Darth Plagueis and Bane in the mix too, as well as Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan and Yoda on the jedi side. If they're going to expand the star wars universe, it would make sense to introduce the history of both sides. The only problem I could see with it is the ghost of Obi-Wan. AG died in 2000, so he would have to somehow have a good reason to look his younger self in ghost form, which could be tricky.

Bane- he died in Dark Knight you dolt

I can now confirm through my own sources that Palpatine will indeed return as a force ghost and will battle Yoda's force ghost who will INDEED by the puppet yoda ghost and not the CGI iteration. the fans are getting what they wanted.

    This is really boring news

Palpatine will be seen as a gatekeeper to a Sith holocron

From star wars lore force users who turn to the darkside cannot become one with the force and are bound to either their remains or place of death, so it makes sense that he would be around. IN swor sith ghosts really become a problem.

I think we'll see both Palpatine and Yoda in ghost form in Ep. 7. I'm sure Yoda will appear to Luke in a scene (Disney's probably saying to themselves "It's not a SW movie without Yoda!"), and Palpatine may be present as a phantom to tempt/haunt another character, perhaps the new younger main character who is tempted by the dark side.
