Sorry guys and gals, a third reteam for Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone following "Crazy Stupid Love" and the upcoming "Gangster Squad" isn't in the cards. But Ben Affleck? That's a pretty nice consolation prize.

Sorry guys and gals, a third reteam for Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone following "Crazy Stupid Love" and the upcoming "Gangster Squad" isn't in the cards. But Ben Affleck? That's a pretty nice consolation prize.

The actor/director (or is director/actor now?) is early talks to take on the lead role in the movie, if the right female lead can be found. The script, penned by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (who will also direct), tells the story of a veteran conman who becomes romantically involved with a newcomer, and finds the relationship challenged by their illegal activities. And when they meet again down the line, the complications have long-lasting effects.

Warner Bros. are keen on the movie, and want it in production soon, but how soon is the question, as the studio will probably also want Affleck on the press trail for the Oscar-contending "Argo." At any rate, we're bummed that the Gosling/Stone pairing isn't happening, especially for material that seems they could easily knock out of the park. But watching Affleck roll back into rom-com-ish territory could be...interesting? We'll see. [Deadline]
