Headlines write themselves sometimes. And when it's Sacha Baron Cohen and the title of the movie project is "The Lesbian," half the work is pretty much done already.

Yes, the comic actor's Four By Two Films has shaken hands with Paramount Pictures to develop the movie that is apparently based on a true story. This writer must've missed the Wacky News section of the paper for the past week, but apparently some Hong Kong billionaire named Cecil Chao offered $65 million to any man who would marry his lesbian daughter. And the press loved the story even more when it was recently revealed that a French church had blessed the union between his daughter and her girlfriend.

It's pretty easy to see where this premise could go: either as a comedy with Cohen as the ignorant father, or as a wacky comedy with Cohen as the lesbian. We'd love to see the latter, but right now the former idea is the only one that's taking hold. Of course, Cohen, like many folks in Hollywood, develops multiple projects at once, and this one is a ways off because it needs a writer first. But: Sacha Baron Cohen Stars In "The Lesbian"? Yeah, we've bought our ticket already. [Deadline]

"And when it's Sacha Baron Cohen and the title of the movie project is "The Lesbian," half the work is pretty much done already." I think that was the attitude that prevailed in the writers' rooms for both 'Bruno' and 'The Dictator'. Suffice to say, I am not thrilled about a possibly homophobic comedy that throws in a bunch of lazy lesbian stereotypes, some gratitous kissing scenes and then ends with a sanctimonious speech about the wrongs of homophobia, as if the filmmakers can say, "see, see, 'we' are not homophobic or sexist. We are just depicting it. There's a difference."
