Sam Raimi Explains Why He Won't Watch Marc Webb's 'The Amazing Spider-Man"

Such are the times we live in that if you've been paying close enough attention, there are already some sites out there claiming Warner Bros. has a gameplan for when they want to reboot the Batman franchise. Maybe they do, maybe they don't, but considering that Sony kept only five years distance between Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man 3" and Marc Webb's reboot "The Amazing Spider-Man," it's certainly within the realm of possibility. But one person who won't be watching the Spidey reboots is Raimi himself, but not for the reasons you might think.

There are no grudges or hard feelings about the studio or Webb taking another spin on the franchise, rather it's just that Raimi isn't quite ready to watch it. "I'm a big Marc Webb fan and a giant fan of Emma Stone. And of Andrew Garfield...And I love the producers of that movie because they are dear friends, and the writer. But, I haven't had the guts to go see the movie yet. Because I don't want to go to my girlfriend's wedding," he told Huffington Post. "I just can't bring myself to do it. I don't have the guts. But, I hear it's great. My wife even loved the picture and said it was a wonderful, excellently produced, beautifully acted, brilliantly written 'Spider-Man' picture. She'd tell me the truth and that's what she said."

Indeed, Raimi is satisfied that web slingers have moved on and moreover, have pleased the diehards. "I think I handed the torch to Marc and I hear that he ran with it and succeeded and made a brilliant picture. I'm happy for him and all the team. And I only wish him the best and I salute them because it's a tough job, too," he said. "And obviously he's pleased the fans -- so, I'm proud for him."

No beef folks, just lots of professional admiration. Next up for Raimi is "Oz The Great And Powerful" which opens on March 8th, but the director will never know what Victor Fleming thinks of his prequel. [via Total Film]
