Sarah Jessica Parker To Make Amends For 'Sex And The City,' Takes Role Of Gloria Steinem In 'Lovelace'

We'll say this; in its first couple of seasons, "Sex and the City" was a breath of fresh air. A witty, bawdy comedy about women in New York City, it initially presented four very complex characters as they navigated their careers and love lives in the big city. But pretty soon they all became one dimensional harpies on a never-ending hunt for sex, shoes and shopping and as they moved up into higher tax brackets, their problems became the stuff most of us could only dream of having. And let's not even talk about those bloated movies.

All this to say, Sarah Jessica Parker will be making it up to women (and men) everywhere by taking on the role of trailblazing feminist Gloria Steinem in "Lovelace," taking on the role abandoned by Demi Moore due to Red Bull addiction/anorexia/whatever-is-in-the-tabloids-at-the-moment. The role isn't a very big one -- it's essentially a cameo role -- but Steinem was a figure in the porn star's life, penning the article "The Real Linda Lovelace" which took Lovelace's husband, Chuck Traynor, to task for the stories he was spreading around about the sexual appetites of his wife. Steinem also wrote the introduction to Lovelace's memoir, "Out Of Bondage," and also appeared at the press conference for her first book, "Ordeal."

Shooting is already underway on the film with Amanda Seyfried and Peter Sarsgaard leading an extended supporting cast that recently added Chloë Sevigny as well. "Howl" directors Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman are at the helm. [Variety]
