Shailene Woodley Plays With Knives In First Look At YA Hopeful 'Divergent'

"Twilight" is done, "The Hunger Games" is already a phenomenon and Hollywood is eager to wring more dollars out of tween wallets, but those plans haven't quite worked out. "Beautiful Creatures" and "The Host" both fizzled and no one is really expecting "Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones" to be a blockbuster. But can "Divergent" succeed where others have failed?

"Twilight" is done, "The Hunger Games" is already a phenomenon and Hollywood is eager to wring more dollars out of tween wallets, but those plans haven't quite worked out. "Beautiful Creatures" and "The Host" both fizzled and no one is really expecting "Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones" to be a blockbuster. But can "Divergent" succeed where others have failed?

Well, it's got a solid leading lady in "The Descendants" star Shailene Woodley, who also has "The Spectacular Now" and "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" on her upcoming slate. But perhaps more importantly, Summit Entertainment are starting the marketing now, dropping the first image of the movie on EW. With knives and everything. As for the plot, it's standard discovering-who-you-are YA stuff, with Woodley playing Tris Prior (Shailene Woodley), a Divergent, one five factions in the future, but one that is facing a conspiracy that could see it destroyed.

Neil Burger ("Limitless") directs and we'll see if this is the next YA sensation on March 21, 2014.
