Damn, Sharlto Copley isn't wasting any time filling up his calendar. Currently off shooting the thriller "Open Grave" and set to team up with Spike Lee this fall for the "Oldboy" remake, it looks like he's going to sandwich a good old-fashioned blockbuster in right between the two.

Deadline reports that the South African actor is getting set to play King Stefan in "Maleficent" opposite Angelina Jolie. Not a bad move for a guy who only three years ago was unheard of (and arguably still is), until starring in the surprise summer box office hit "District 9." The live-action film will explore the origins of the evil fairy Maleficent and what led her to curse Princess Aurora in Disney’s animated classic "Sleeping Beauty." Academy Award-winning production designer Robert Stromberg ("Avatar," "Alice in Wonderland") will make his feature directing debut with a script from Linda Woolverton ("Beauty and the Beast," "The Lion King," and "Alice in Wonderland"). Shooting is set to get underway later this summer with a March 14, 2014 release date already lined up.

But one thing that's interesting to note is that the name of Elle Fanning, in talks to play Princess Aurora months ago, has pretty much dropped out of all reports about the movie. We presume this means the deal or scheduling didn't get worked out. No matter what the reason, who should play the girl who gets put into a deep slumber? Will they try for another name or go for an unknown? Still time to figure that one out, but with the production start looming, we'll likely get our answer soon.
