Shawn Levy Makes 'The Internship' Official; Starts Shooting With Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson This Summer

The Playlist By Ryan Gowland | The Playlist April 13, 2012 at 8:56AM

After directing last year's "Real Steel," it looked like director Shawn Levy was heading back home to 20th Century Fox to direct either an adaptation of "Frankenstein" or, possibly, a remake "Fantastic Voyage." As of September of last year, Levy said that both projects were still "possibilities," but in February, it looked like Levy would instead return to comedy (or perhaps he never left depending on how you feel about "Real Steel") with "The Internship," which would reunite "Wedding Crashers" actors Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson. With the dust settled, Levy is officially helming "The Internship."

Vaughn wrote the script, which will follow the duo as two old-school salesmen that find themselves unemployed. In an attempt to reinvent themselves, they take internships at a major dotcom company. It sounds like a pastiche of films Vaughn and Wilson have already made, but those films also saw the actors at their best. As long as the Shawn Levy that directed "Date Night" shows up instead of the Shawn Levy that directed "Cheaper By the Dozen" or "The Pink Panther," there's a chance that "The Internship" could be pulled off. Levy also recently produced "Neighborhood Watch," which co-stars Vaughn, so clearly the two have a decent working relationship.

Variety says that shooting will commence on June 25, with Levy's 21 Laps Entertainment and Vaughn's Wild West Picture Show Productions producing.
