Sylvester Stallone Flexes His Acting Muscles For 'Reach Me'

A decade ago, Sylvester Stallone could only have dreamed that his career would be as healthy as it is right now at the age of 66. With a bona fide franchise in the form of “The Expendables,” and still picking up action roles in the likes of “Bullet to the Head,” “The Tomb,” “Grudge Match” and potentially another outing for John Rambo. But it’s not all about action for Sly as he’s gone off and filmed a small role in an indie drama.

With a bona fide franchise in the form of “The Expendables,” and still picking up action roles in the likes of “Bullet to the Head,” “The Tomb,” “Grudge Match” and potentially another outing for John Rambo. But it’s not all about action for Sly as he’s gone off and filmed a small role in an indie drama.

Reach Me” was written and directed by Stallone’s co-star from “Cobra,” John Herzfeld (he played Cho in the 1986 flick), and Stallone has already wrapped several days of shooting on the film. The cast also includes rapper Nelly, Omari Hardwick, Ving Rhames, Elizabeth Henstridge, Danny Aiello and Rebekah Chaney, but Stallone’s involvement will almost inevitably make it more marketable.

The story follows a group of individuals who all have a connection to a self-help book penned by a reclusive former football coach. Details of Stallone’s supporting role are being kept under wraps, but who knows, he could be that former football coach at the centre of it all. Herzfeld’s previous directorial features include the Charlize Theron starring “2 Days in the Valley,” the Robert De Niro flick “15 Minutes” and “The Death and Life of Bobby Z” with Paul Walker, Olivia Wilde and Laurence Fishburne. Stallone’s appearance in this indie drama looks like a case of one old friend doing the other a favour, but it’s nice to see Sly mix things up a little whatever his motivation. [Variety]
