Well, here's a movie that won't be playing Cannes or coming anywhere near it: "The Expendables 3." It's not high art, and these things are barely movies at all, but they do have explosions and old dudes causing those explosions and that's all some folks need.

And so, a batch of new pics from the action sequel are here. Yep, there's Sylvester Stallone, Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson and Arnold Schwarzenegger all doing their thing and looking tough and getting ready to see say some eye-rolling dialogue. In case you actually care, the plot revolves around a former member of the Expendables (played by Gibson) who has become a ruthless arms dealer who was left for dead... but surprise, he's still alive. So everyone bands together to take him out on the cheap sets of Bulgarian film studios.

"The Expendables 3" opens on August 15th.

The Expendables movies are awesome - you can't really fault them I have seen enough pretentious crap in the cinema over the years which have gotten kudos for doing something dumb (The Usual Suspects, The Avengers etc).

The Expendables movies hail back to movies like The Great Escape where the stories and characters are instantly relatable and watchable. And of course they could be shown at Cannes - why not? Stallone is a master filmmaker who has created the Oscar winning ROCKY and the brilliant First Blood which had one of the greatest dramatic performances given by a heroic character on screen.

The Expendables movies are well written and well acted. They have a humorous element to them but that doesn't make them less intelligent. And to see Harrison Ford share the screen with Arnold, Sly and Mel (all icons of the screen.) will be magnificent.

I agree with the comments below. The director's cut of the first Expendables was actually extraordinary. And yes these movies won't win Oscars but I give major kudos to all these action stars doing this in the first place. Stallone is a GREAT actor and he broke his neck in the first. Give these guys a bit more respect yeah?

Wow, author, sorry we're not all millionaires who like to play squash and the sip tea at high noon. I wouldn't walk near Cannes film festival or the Oscars if you paid me. For us regular, hard working guys, this is fun. Sorry our taste is not on your amazing level.
