Projects never die, they either have momentum or they don't, and one particular, ambitious endeavour has already been kicked around and picked over, going through various ups and downs, is Ron Howard's "The Dark Tower." We'll try to keep this history brief.

Moving easily and often between documentaries and feature film projects, Jonathan Demme has always got a few things on the go at any given time. This year alone has seen him direct theater legends Wallace Shawn and André Gregory in their re-teaming in "Wally And André Shoot Ibsen," hit the festival circuit with "Enzo Avitabile Music Life," get involved as a producer on "Song One" with Anne Hathaway set to star, and pick up a directing credit on "Old Fires." But it looks like one project has fallen off his slate.

While it might appear that director Jonathan Demme has retreated from the mainstream in recent years, directing a string of documentaries including “Jimmy Carter Man From Plains” and a trio of Neil Young concert films, the director says he’s just been following the projects he finds himself drawn to. “It all depends on what I’m enthusiastic about at the moment, what presents itself,” Demme told The Playlist in an exclusive interview this week. “I love doing fiction. I love doing performance films and I love doing documentaries that don’t have music. I love to shoot and I love to shoot things I’m enthusiastic about.”
