10 Things We Learned From The 2014 Golden Globes
If you're a salesperson of aspirin, raw eggs or hair-of-the-dog booze in Hollywood, today is a good day for you: it's the morning after the Golden Globes, otherwise known as the single most hungover day in the Hollywood calendar. The night that truly kicks off the two-month-long season of awards ceremonies, all leading up to the Oscars at the start of March, its reputation is as one that not many take seriously, but everyone treats as a bit of a party, with some gloriously decadent shenanigans taking place over the years.

American Hustle
Well, that's a wrap. "12 Years a Slave" won Best Drama, but "American Hustle" took three of the top prizes including Best Comedy/Musical, Best Actress Comedy/Musical and Best Supporting Actress. Probably the biggest surprise of the night, though not a shock if you've been reading the tea leaves of late, Matthew McConaughey scoring the Best Actor (Drama) prize for "Dallas Buyers Club" over Robert Redford, Chiwetel Ejiofor and that crowded field. More analysis tomorrow and in the meantime, check out to see how we did with our Globes predictions.

The Best Quotes of 2013
2013, we’re not quite done with you yet. To close off our coverage of the year gone by, we wanted to hand over the mic to the actors, directors and other film professionals who made waves, headlines, faux pas, announcements, pronouncements or funny gags throughout the year. And we’re changing up the format this time out, scouring the whole internet and not just our own archives for these little nuggets, mainly because we’re fairly sure you’ve all avidly consumed, and committed to memory every word of each of the 200-odd interviews we ran in 2013, and we’d be preaching to the choir.

Gravity
Awards season ticks along and the wee hours of this morning have brought an announcement from the British Academy Of Film And Television Arts, or BAFTA, that as ever, is full of surprises. "Gravity" leads the field with eleven nominations, with "12 Years a Slave" and "American Hustle" just behind with ten, and "Captain Phillips" with nine. "Saving Mr. Banks" also did well with five, as did (surprisingly enough) "Behind the Candelabra," which got a theatrical release in the U.K., and was therefore eligible. Brit favorite "Philomena" also had a strong showing with four nods, joining "Gravity" in picking up nominations for Best Film and Best British Film.

The Coens might want to hold on putting down that deposit for a tuxedo, as it seems their wonderful "Inside Llewyn Davis" is not registering with voters. After being shut out of the Producers Guild and Writers Guild awards nominations, the directorial duo have once again been left in the cold, this time by the DGA.

Oscars: The State Of The Best Picture Race
After a few restorative weeks (mostly spent watching Scott Adkins movies, in case you were wondering), we're back on the awards beat. We're now only ten days from the announcement of the Oscar nominations, with one of the busiest weeks of the season before that (DGA and BAFTA nominations are still to come this week, along with the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday).

Best & Worst Trends Of 2013
We’ve just wrapped up the highest grossing year in history with the movie industry capturing $11 billion in domestic receipts. Lost within the field of hits and flops were common re-occurrences, ideas and motifs that resurfaced consistently throughout the year to make 2013 its own beast, labeling our shared cinematic experience as a moment in time.

The Wolf Of Wall Street Martin Scorsese Leonardo DiCaprio
For the past couple weeks, one of the running threads about Martin Scorsese's "The Wolf of Wall Street" was that it was just too hardcore and raunchy for the (generally older) awards season voters. But don't tell that to the Producer's Guild—one of the best augurs of future Oscar glory—as they have nominated the movie along with a batch of others that have long been seen as surefire Best Picture contenders.
