Every year studios tend to overestimate their tentpoles and then end up delaying them a year or more. 2013 saw an unprecedented amount of blockbusters originally slated for 2012 get pushed back six months off their originally intended bow: "The Great Gatsby," "World War Z," "Man Of Steel," "Jack The Giant Slayer," the list goes on (we took a deeper look at these films earlier in the year, see "The Delayed Films Of 2013: Why They Were Pushed Back & Which Ones Will You Be Seeing?"). The latest casualty is Warner Bros. "300: Rise Of An Empire," and it's easy to see why.

RIPD, Ryan Reynolds, Jeff Bridges
Not every movie this summer is going to a smash hit, and a couple are destined to disappoint commercially. So which one will it be? We'll leave that up to ticket buyers to decide, but we certainly will say that right now, Universal has a bit of a hill to climb with "R.I.P.D." The movie wrapped over a year ago, and it's only in recent days that we got an actual picture from the movie (see above) and now, a poster. A not so exciting poster.

While for some, any decision that pits art against commerce might seem like a vexing one, for studio executives, the bottom line is usually the rule of law. Just yesterday it was revealed that Warner Bros. was strong-arming Guillermo Del Toro into converting his upcoming "Pacific Rim" into 3D, and now another big 2013 movie for the studio is getting a tweak to enhance its bang for the buck.

Considering "300: Battle of Artemisia" isn't continuing the tale set forth by its predecessor, "300," it's not a complete shock that Gerard Butler won't be returning to reprise his role as King Leonidas. However, according to producer Bernie Goldman, there was a part for him and Lena Headey in the script -- if he wanted it. “It’s a different story. [However] there’s a small part for Lena [Headey]. There’s a small part for Gerry [Butler],” he said last fall. But according to Butler, appearing in the movie just isn't his bag, bro.

Oh, so this is still happening then. "300: Battle of Artemisia" seems to have been brewing for a while now, but without the trigger really being pulled. The last we heard on this movie was back in March, but with a release date looming for late next summer, we suppose Warner Bros. are finally starting to get this thing rolling in earnest.

After years on Australian television, actor Callan Mulvey is making a move into the American film market. The actor has come into his own over the last few years, starring in the small-screen police-actioner "Rush" and it seems like the weekly exhibition of his action chops must have caught the right eyes somewhere as he's now scored roles in two big films in the works this year.
