Remember back in 2007 when Zack Snyder delivered his first motion comic? Sorry, no, we mean remember back in 2007 when Zack Snyder directed his first graphic novel adaptation which stuck closely to the visuals of its source material? Well, audiences worldwide loved it to the tune of about $450 million, and although it's taken nearly five years to set up a sequel, the pieces are finally beginning to fall into place for the prequel "300: Battle of Artemesia."

From one "Animal Kingdom" star to another. Late last year, Aussie actor-of-the-moment Joel Edgerton ("Warrior") was rumored to be in line for several Warner Bros. projects including "The Man From U.N.C.L.E," and the untitled "300" prequel (sometimes known as "300: Battle Of Artemisia"). Well, Edgerton never really landed in either gig, but one of his Aussie "Animal Kingdom" pals, Sullivan Stapleton has.

It’s looking more and more dire for the creatively bankrupt producers behind Warner Bros.’ big-budget American version of “Akira.” Yesterday brought word that the studio was shutting down production offices, and now Deadline reports that this orphans two actors who were competing to play the important role of Tetsuo.

While Eva Green's movie choices have always been interesting and eclectic, her otherworldly beauty seems to have made her a favorite for sword 'n sandal/fantasy pics. With "Kingdom of Heaven," "The Golden Compass," and short-lived TV series "Camelot" under her belt, she's adding another similar film to her resume.

You can't stop Hollywood from trying to make stars, even if the audience isn't biting. After the complete failure of "Warrior" and "The Thing," Joel Edgerton remains in demand, evevn if he can still walk the streets completely unrecognized. He was in the mix for a potential supporting role in the now-defunct "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." and recently was sought to play Themosticles in the currently-gestating "300: Battle Of Artemisium." However, Variety has heard something new on the Aussie grapevine: they're reporting that Edgerton has turned the role down, leaving the Noam Murro actioner without a leading man.

With "Immortals" and "Wrath Of The Titans" on the way, the big screen is not going to be lacking in buffed and greased dudes throwing spears and yelling faux-Shakesperian lines at each other. But "300," the granddaddy of them all that started this homoerotic, speedramping, historical-sandal-wearing trend, has a sequel on the way and may have found it's first leading man.

Even though many can't fathom this, the massive blockbuster success of "300" was not something anyone could have predicted. One of the reasons the film was something of a risk was its then-unknown cast: a lot rested on the shoulders of an unproven Gerard Butler, then known as the star of a series of terrible mid-level films, as opposed to being the current face of about a dozen truly awful big studio movies. Now that he's something of a familiar face, the producers of "300: Battle Of Artemisia" aren't letting a good thing go to waste.

Celebrate, ye lovers of bald naked chests and heaving male crotches! A spinoff to "300" awaits, and Warner Bros. has selected a man to captain this sweaty, homoerotic ship. Mr. Noam Murro, who previously helmed an indie called "Smart People" that few saw but all confirmed featured no shirtless men, has jumped aboard "300: Battle of Artemisia." While the film is set to focus on the villainous Dhalsim-like Xerxes of "300," Murro is being hired to mimic Zack Snyder's style from that picture -- that was really all that film had going for it. Oh, and glistening naked chests.
