A.C.O.D. Adam Scott
Sometimes movies need to sell us on their premise or the visual ambition, or provide some other hook to get us interested. Then there are movies like the upcoming comedy "A.C.O.D.," which with an ensemble led by Adam Scott and featuring Catherine O'Hara, Richard Jenkins, Jane Lynch, Clark Duke, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Amy Poehler and Jessica Alba, has the kind of cast we'd watch in anything. Just tell us where to show up. Speaking of showing up, not only do have some exclusive photos and clips from the film but those of you in New York City may be in for an extra treat.

“The big thing for us is about awareness of what an A.C.O.D. is,” director Stu Zicherman recently told EW. “There’s a lot of debate about [keeping] the title.” Well, keep they did and now comes the part of the campaign to let you know what it's all about. And that's just what the first trailer for "A.C.O.D." does, bringing together a whole bunch solid comedic talents for a tale about the effects splitting up....on everyone else...

If you were to make a movie specifically designed to make The Playlist happy, it would look a lot like "A.C.O.D." Already set to star Adam Scott, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Richard Jenkins and Jane Lynch, the film has now added yet another awesome cast member.

Coming off rave reviews at Sundance for her performance in the alcoholism drama "Smashed," we had hoped that Mary Elizabeth Winstead's career would begin to broaden beyond the genre parts she always seems to get. And while her first booking post-Park City was in the psychological thriller "The Darkness" from "The Last Exorcism" director Daniel Stamm, this latest gig is exactly the change of pace we were hoping for.

There's something particularly satisfying about watching a hard-working, long-serving character actor finally getting their due. Which is why, for all the cultural monstrosities it has inflicted on us over the last few years, we'll never totally resent "Glee" -- it continues, after all, provide a huge showcase for Jane Lynch, one of the most gifted comic scene-stealers of the last couple of decades.

There might have been better-crafted, more nuanced comedies in the last few years than Adam McKay's "Step Brothers," but we're not sure there's one we've rewatched more. Second only to the director's "Anchorman" for sheer density of laughs, it's become a frequent inhabitant of our DVD player, if only for a few scenes at a time. Rumors of a sequel continue to circulate, but in the meantime, it looks as if the film might have found a spiritual successor, with two of the film's MVPs reuniting for a similarly-themed comedy.

We've made no secret of our love for Adam Scott in these parts, but he's somehow not quite become the massive star it feels like he's been destined to be for a while. The actor popped up as a vaguely familiar face in serious dramas like "The Aviator," "High Crimes" and, um, "Torque" (maybe not so much with the serious and the drama) in the first half of the last decade, but he then took a major about turn into comedy, stealing the show in "Step Brothers," leading ace sitcom "Party Down" and recently joining the cast of the amazing "Parks & Recreation." But at the same time, he's given some scorching dramatic performances in little-seen indies like "The Vicious Kind" and "Passenger Side," and even did the action movie thing in "Piranha 3D," leading to the impression that maybe Hollywood just doesn't quite know what to make of him.
