If there has been anything that has marked the "Die Hard" series besides the omnipresence of Bruce Willis, it has been blockbuster-sized running times to match the blockbuster-sized movies. The first movie ran 131 minutes, "Die Hard 2" punched in at 124 minutes, and "Die Hard With A Vengeance" stretched it out to 131 minutes, while "Live Free Or Die Hard" clocked at 128 minutes (129 on the unrated cut). But it looks like as John McClane gets some young blood via Jai Courtney, the series is slimming down in size too.

Almost like it was ripped out of a moldy file from a leftover box of studio notes from the 1980s, John McClane is back and this time he's going to...Russia? Okay, fine. That seems to be the hawt new blockbuster place with both "Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol" and upcoming "Jack Ryan" visiting the country. And so it goes for "A Good Day To Die Hard" and will there be some fish out of water comedy? You betcha!

While "A Good Day To Die Hard" marks the return of the R-rating to the series, in an otherwise pretty generic looking movie thus far, some of the elements from its predecessor "Live Free Or Die Hard" are also carrying over. Of course, there's Bruce Willis, but also returning is composer Marco Beltrami who has tuned up the lastest adventures of John McClane.

The "Die Hard" series is sort of akin to Nickelback or the Dave Matthews Band. No one admits to listening to these bands, but clearly someone is buying their music. Likewise, the "Die Hard" franchise has been pretty much irrelevant since the second film (which wasn't very good either), but still, the series has grossed $1.1 billion worldwide so far. However, even domestically the films are hardly gigantic money draws. The highest grossing "Die Hard" film to date is "Live Free or Die Hard," which earned $134 million in 2007, but coupled with the international markets, this is apparently still enough to keep the series going (domestically the series has grossed $435 million so far).

Yipee ki-yay mother Russia! Yes, you've likely read the dumb tagline on the teaser poster and now the real poster has arrived for "Die Hard 5," aka "A Good Day To Die Hard." In this fifth installment of the chronicles of super cop John McClane (played by Bruce Willis of course), the Detective Lieutenant's nose for trouble leads him to Russia, only this time, it's with his estranged son played by Jai Courtney. What happens? Well they get caught in the crossfire of a terrorist plot of course and it'll take father and son to show the Russkies how we shut'erdown in Americuh.

It's simple math: with a PG-13 rating, "Live Free Or Die Hard" earned more domestically and worldwide than any other installment in the franchise. And since the MPAA considers F-bombs to be worse than bullets, 20th Century Fox likely realizes that they can draw in those teens who don't see movies with their parents and keep up the action and excitement folks expect from the series. However, one thing that it can't include is John McClane's trademark "Yipee ki-yay motherfucker," because won't someone please think of the children. In 'Live Free' the expletive was interrupted by a gunshot, and whether or not this movie goes R (we doubt it), it looks like they've found another way around it.
