Is the band getting back together? No, not the super group you missed during their heyday – for today’s generation that seems to be Pavement and Jeff Magnum in the music industry – that other band you never knew you actually loved: the “Grown Ups” crew headed by frontman Adam Sandler.

Is this the sound of Sony and Adam Sandler panicking? The funnyman's latest entry in low brow, corporate sponsored hilarity, the dreadful "Jack & Jill" was his worst box office outing since "Little Nicky." With only $76 million worldwide, it's his first effort in eons not to cross $100 million and for a movie that cost in the neighborhood of $80 million (it certainly wasn't spent on prosthetics) that's not a good thing. So what do you do to get back on the horse? Make a sequel of course.

Review: A Fat Man, Animals That Sound Like Sitcom Characters & The Terrible 'Zookeeper'

Early on in “Zookeeper,” Sony’s latest commercially craven piece of garbage from Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison production company, an animal sees two bears fighting. Her response is, “They look like two bean bag chairs!” Ignoring the idea that this character, a giraffe, has probably never even seen a bean bag chair, this is a brilliant line -- mostly because it reveals the true instincts of the six (six!) writers tasked with bringing this story-less hook to the screen.

You gotta hand it to Adam Sandler. No matter what you might think of his puerile excuses for movies, he's made a career out of getting paid to hang out with his friends and deliver loosely patched together series of images that he calls "movies." And he's getting another chance to roll with his homies, and this time, he won't even have to put up the pretense of shaving or wearing pants.

We can see the trailer already: From The Guys Who Brought You "Sex Drive," "She's Out Of My League" and "Hot Tub Time Machine." Gah. We just got sick for a moment.

Plus Kevin James MMA Flick 'Here Comes The Boom' Lands July 27thWith the Oscars stinking up the joint last night, the awards season is finally over, and we can look forward to the now-six-month-long summer blockbuster season, without the worry of accidentally stumbling across a film with a thought in its head. But the business being what it is i.e. increasingly reliant on release dates before scripts, or a director, or cast is attached, studios are already jostling for dates in 2012, which looks at least as crowded as this year's clusterfuck of a season.

Weekend Box Office: 'Gnomeo' Leapfrogs 'Hall Pass,' Audiences Not 'Angry' Enough To 'Drive'

Rats off to ya, “Gnomeo And Juliet.” After two weeks in release, the ‘toon has vaulted into first place, generating $14 million this weekend on its way to a 3D-boosted $100 million+ gross. The Disney Touchstone release, populated almost entirely by British actors, is something of a surprise hit, since it looked like a throwaway purchase along the lines of “Planet 51” or “Hoodwinked.” Consider this something of an anomaly: who knew animated lawn gnomes would generate such business?

The stories of Adam Sandler as a generous superstar are numerous. In addition to his charity work and what's said to be a personable demeanor (amongst those the protective star allows inside), there's no doubt he's been loyal to both his fanbase and friends. Nobody, including the scandal-happy tabloids, seems to ever have a bad thing to say about the comedian that continues to top the box office for almost 15 years now.
