As if the "offer story" wasn't bad enough, the "testing" or "reading for" stories have taken that to a lower standard. And listen, we get it. We've run those things before because a peek behind the curtain is interesting, particularly for high profile projects and it's a window into what direction studios are looking to take a project. But confirming offer stories? That seems kind of ridiculously excessive, but it's also a slow news week, so here we are.

While Tilda Swinton has rightfully been earning raves for her turn in Lynne Ramsay's wrenching "We Need To Talk About Kevin," the film's other MVP performance undoubtedly belongs to Ezra Miller. As the titular Kevin, he brings a cruel sexuality to the role that finds him matching wits and fraying the nerves of his mother to the point of no return. It has been a slightly divisive performance, with some saying he pitches his peformance too far into villain territory, but that would be missing the nuance and texture he brings in portraying a relationship that between two people that is largely fraudulent.

Yes, it's yet another offer for "Akira," although this one brings with it even more ammunition for the already disgruntled fans of the original manga and anime.

Now that it's seemingly found its lead, in the shape of Blandy McBlanderson from "Tron: Legacy," things finally seem to be moving ahead smoothly on Warner Bros' troubled remake of anime classic "Akira." The film was originally to be directed by Albert Hughes, but after they failed to find a star, with names like Brad Pitt and Keanu Reeves turning the project down, Hughes walked, and Warners retooled it as a cheaper proposition, aided by "Harry Potter" scribe Steve Kloves.

With "Harry Potter" ending this summer, Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy coming to a close in 2012, and "Green Lantern" proving a weak start to the DC heroes that the studio hoped would see them through the next few years, Warner Bros. are branching out a bit in their hunt for future franchises. Their hopes for 2013 might include Superman reboot "Man of Steel" and Spartan sequel "300: Battle of Artemesia," but neither are quite home runs, and they're joined by fresh starters like Guillermo Del Toro's giant monster movie "Pacific Rim" and period witch-hunting flick "The Seventh Son," with Sam Claflin and Jeff Bridges.

Whether you like it or not, Warner Bros' "Akira" remake is now greenlit and moving ahead. With “Unknown” and “Orphan” director Jaume Collet-Serra set to direct and "Tron: Legacy" star Garrett Hedlund ahead of the pack to take on one of the lead roles, it seems the filmmakers are actively looking to cast up the film and are looking to get some big name talent on board. Though this shouldn't be a surprise (more on that in a moment).
