Now that it's seemingly found its lead, in the shape of Blandy McBlanderson from "Tron: Legacy," things finally seem to be moving ahead smoothly on Warner Bros' troubled remake of anime classic "Akira." The film was originally to be directed by Albert Hughes, but after they failed to find a star, with names like Brad Pitt and Keanu Reeves turning the project down, Hughes walked, and Warners retooled it as a cheaper proposition, aided by "Harry Potter" scribe Steve Kloves.

The director struggled throughout the '80s and '90s, first attempting to bankroll his expensive projects through his American Zoetrope label, then as a director for hire in Hollywood after a run of flops nearly bankrupted him. But instead of continuing to struggle within the studio system he instead opted to go independent again.

And now, one of the final pieces of the casting puzzle is in place and a Coppola family regular continues his rising career with a spot in "Stoker."
