The Humbling Al Pacino Greta Gerwig
Okay, nearly three years ago, word first surfaced that Al Pacino was looking to reteam with Barry Levinson for an adaptation of Philip Roth's "The Humbling." And that was pretty much the last we heard of it, but somewhere along the way, filming started and this thing was cast cast so either credit a secretive production or apologies for sleeping on this one.

One gets the impression that a dozen intriguingly bizarre films are always swirling around the mind of director Joe Dante, and it is a displeasure to see that the most recent work from him happened back in 2009 with “The Hole." Since then, a ‘60s-set biopic about Roger Corman and the ghost story “Casting The Runes” with Simon Pegg have been bandied about as potential next projects, but now some financing has come through for another, and it contains the kind twisted comedy and horror elements that you’d expect from the “Gremlins” helmer.

You really have to be careful with these young adult franchises. “Harry Potter” managed to lock up participants for what became an annual entry in the series, as audiences watched these kids grow into functioning young adults. That franchise knew the value of time; three and a half years later, we have the second film in the “Percy Jackson” saga, and the cast is comprised of college-age kids playing much younger versions of themselves, and embarrassed to do so. “Percy Jackson: Sea Of Monsters” is most interesting because of what it can’t help being: a too-late sequel years after the zeitgeist, clearly the product of a lowered budget and adjusted expectations following a not-well-received first picture. Keep the flame, Percy. Keep the flame.

It's been eight years since Marcus Nispel's dreary reboot or whatever of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" that was only really notable for greasing up a young Jessica Biel, putting her in tight jeans and tank top and having her run around screaming her head off. Well, enough time has passed that a new batch of teenagers haven't had the horror classic ruined for them yet, so along comes "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D" and, another young woman who will likely find her top ripped and soaking wet.
