Horns, Radcliffe
This fall, Ben Affleck won't be the only big time actor accused of murder, despised by the public and swarmed by the media. Daniel Radcliffe will also face accusations of a heinous crime in the forthcoming "Horns," but unlike David Fincher's "Gone Girl," this film is coming packaged with a supernatural twist.

One of the films we were most excited about at the Toronto International Film Festvial was Alexandre Aja's "Horns," an adaptation of the devilish novel by Joe Hill (his father is some guy named Stephen King). With a terrific cast led by Daniel Radcliffe as a man who wakes up one day looking more Hellboy than human, and Juno Temple, it seemed like it could be a delightful horror-comedy that pushed both Aja (director of "Piranha 3D") and Radcliffe out of their comfort zones. Sadly, the movie has been met with mostly middling notices. Our interest is still piqued, especially after this first clip (also Aja still seems keen on doing his crazy "Cobra the Space Pirate").

TIFF: Daniel Radcliffe & Juno Temple Talk The Horror Fairytale 'Horns'
Harry Potter no more, young British star Daniel Radcliffe is having a hell of a Toronto International Film Festival, starring determinedly in three very diverse features: he’s a hopeless romantic in “The F Word” opposite Zoe Kazan, a college-aged Allen Ginsberg in “Kill Your Darlings,” and a mourning lover confronting his very literal demons in Alexandre Aja’s “Horns.” We got to sit down with Radcliffe and his comely costar Juno Temple to talk about "Horns," which is still looking for distribution.

One of the more hotly anticipated movies that will make its splashy premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (for us, at least) is Alexandre Aja's "Horns," an adaption of the silly, surreal, scary-as-hell novel by Joe Hill (aka Stephen King's son). Now a trio of new photos from the film has debuted (courtesy of Entertainment Weekly), featuring the Boy Who Lived Daniel Radcliffe rocking some pretty devilish nubs.

Just the other day we were wondering when they were going to finish rounding out the cast for Alexandre Aja's adaptation of Joe Hill's wonderfully unsettling novel "Horns." Well, today seems to be that day, as The Wrap is reporting Juno Temple, Joe Anderson and Kelli Garner have now joined Daniel Radcliffe and Max Minghella in the cast. That's a spookily good line-up.

Max Minghella, the talented young actor from "The Social Network" and "Art School Confidential" (talk about a movie that's been universally forgotten) and son of late director Anthony Minghella, has entered into talks to costar in Alexandre Aja's supernatural thriller "Horns," opposite the former Boy Who Lived, Daniel Radcliffe (according to a report in Variety). The production is set to begin later this fall, and will be financed by Red Granite Pictures (which will also handle foreign sales) and Mandalay Pictures.

Two years ago, we'd have likely reported on Alexandre Aja's latest project with a total lack of enthusiasm. This was the director who bought us the remake of "The Hills Have Eyes," "P2," and "Mirrors." And considering we weren't even that impressed by his calling card, "Switchblade Romance," it's probably fair to say that we weren't his biggest fans. But then he went and made "Piranha 3D," and we were genuinely sad to see that he wasn't directing the sequel. This was a film that featured Jerry O'Connell's penis being chewed up and spat out by an angry piranha, yet almost had the sense of being the work of an auteur - what's not to like?

When "Piranha 3D" debuted at the tail end of the summer of 2010, it took people by surprise, with French filmmakers Alexandre Aja and Gregory Levasseur throwing good taste out the window and instead offering a smorgasbord of outré delights (buckets of blood climaxing in a "Saving Private Ryan"-style beach party massacre and several progressive sexual moments, including a slow motion underwater nude ballet and a severed penis being coughed in the audience's face).

More than a few were skeptical when the Alexandre Aja-directed remake of slasher-classic "Maniac" was announced, with Elijah Wood stepping into the gnarled, grotesquely-unattractive shoes of Joe Spinell. But they seem to have found a way around this, as Wood revealed to MTV at Sundance that the film was, "...entirely in P.O.V. You only ever see me in reflections and occasionally there are out-of-body experiences where you see more of me." While it's a dubious proposition to capture a film with a time and location so integral to its own identity, a fresh approach like this seems wise. Consider this: it could have easily become a found-footage movie.

Imagine waking up one day with a pair of curved horns sticking out of your forehead. That is the predicament that Ig Perrish, the protagonist of Joe Hill's wonderfully contemplative horror novel "Horns," and if there's one filmmaker we would love to see that image brought to the screen, it's Alexandre Aja, the French filmmaker behind "High Tension," the stylish "Hills Have Eyes" remake, and last summer's giddy-gory fun "Piranha 3D." Thankfully, according to the Hollywood Reporter, this will be the case.
