While the release schedule is starting to look a little less grim over the next few months -- most upcoming weekends promise at least one picture that doesn't actively insult our intelligence, which is a start -- the wait for the May release of Terrence Malick's "The Tree of Life" still seems interminable. It's a picture that we've been looking forward to for the last couple of years, so you'll excuse us if we jump on to any slivers of information about the film which has largely been under wraps.

"The King's Speech" sits on the throne this morning, earning 12 Oscar nominations and looking like the film to beat at the 83rd Academy Awards, while "True Grit" follows with 10 nods and "The Social Network" with 8. Not much in the way of shockers this year, but some pleasant surprises in the mix as well as few snubs.

Also Scoring Chris Weitz's 'The Gardener'So we are just over five months away from the likely Cannes debut and theatrical release of Terrence Malick's "The Tree Of Life." The film, pretty much the closest thing the arthouse world will ever get to a blockbuster, stars heavyweights Brad Pitt and Sean Penn in a decades-spanning tale about a father/son relationship and also the mysteries of the universe. The trailer for the film is currently in theaters playing in front of "Black Swan" but don't expect it go online anytime soon as Fox Searchlight plans to piecemeal stills and info about the project in the run-up to the release. So with that in mind, we'll take whatever info we can and the latest bit of news comes from the film's composer, Playlist favorite Alexandre Desplat.

Next week, Americans will be getting on planes, trains and automobiles to make the trek back home for Thanksgiving. It's probably the ugliest travel time of the year, so perhaps a couple of new soundtrack albums will help ease your nerves in the event your flight is delayed.

That Makes It Two Years In A Row For The French ComposerThe year may have two more months to go, but that evidently doesn't matter so much to the World Soundtrack Awards who have named Alexandre Desplat the composer of the year for the second year running.
