Gravity, Bullock, Clooney
The old adage used to be that in space, no one can hear you scream. But what happens if they can hear you scream, but there's no one around to help? Thousands of miles above the Earth, there isn't much room for error and when disaster strikes in Alfonso Cuaron's "Gravity" it's pretty bracing stuff.

It says a lot about director Alfonso Cuarón that, in the midst of major franchise announcements and sizzle reels at San Diego Comic-Con, his film focused on two actors in space stood as one of the most anticipated events. “Gravity,” starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock, promises the director in typically fine form, and while the film weathered a nearly five-year journey to the big screen, Cuarón recently shared what made those years so useful and challenging together.

NBC has been a punching bag lately, and not without good reason. The one-time kings of network ratings have tumbled from their dominance of Must See TV Thursday to pretty much For The Love Of God Watch Us On Any Night Please TV. And while NBC's past found them bringing massive, game-changing comedies like "Seinfeld," "Cheers," and "Friends" to air, is cutting-edge drama going to define them moving forward? This year alone they defied all expectations and impressed both critics and audiences with "Hannibal," a richer than expected and very fresh take on the character. And next year, will "Believe" join its ranks?

"Gravity," the new film from "Children of Men" auteur Alfonso Cuaron about a pair of astronauts (played by Sandra Bullock and George Clooney) adrift in outer space following a calamitous event, doesn't seem like your typical Comic-Con movie (ie. not based on a comic or featuring dudes in spandex). But the film, which is set to open the Venice Film Festival in August with a domestic bow in October, needs all the hype it can get. It's has been in active production since 2010 and has missed its release date at least once already. “It’s been an amazing miscalculation,” Cuaron told the Hall H crowd.

Guillermo del Toro Hasn't Seen 'The Hobbit' Yet, Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu Helped Him Cut 10 Minutes Out Of 'Pacific Rim'

So Guillermo Del Toro's "Pacific Rim" (our review) storms into theatres on Friday tonight, with screenings starting at 7 PM, and while critical consensus is leaning in his favour, it remains to be seen if audiences want to see robots smash monsters or watch Salma Hayek getting farted on in Adam Sandler's "Grown Ups 2" (yes, really). But no matter how the box officed plays out, Del Toro has many irons in the fire (he's producing and direct the pilot of "The Strain" next, with his next feature "Crimson Peak" shooting in early 2014) and in between all that he's likely busy with a dozen other things we don't even know about yet. But things might have been very different had he stuck around to direct "The Hobbit" films (he bailed when MGM was in near financial ruin and their future was in doubt) but has he been in a rush to see what Peter Jackson has done?

Festival opening films are always something of a roll of the dice. Organizers are always keen to bring some star power, so it tends to be one of the more high profile picks around, but often they may want to save the real quality for the main competition, so you'll often end up with something a little sub-par. As far as festivals go, though, Venice has a pretty good track record.

As far as two people to create a TV series together, it'd be hard to do much better than J.J. Abrams and Alfonso Cuaron. The former is, obviously, the man behind hits like "Alias," "Lost" and "Revolution," while the latter is the acclaimed filmmaker behind "Children Of Men," who'll make his long-awaited return this October with "Gravity." The delayed post-production on the latter gave Cuaron the time to cook up "Believe" with Abrams, and direct a pilot, NBC picked up the show, and now a trailer has arrived, via /Film.

Perhaps a recap of the journey we've been on with "Gravity" is in order. We've waited. And waited, and waited and waited, patiently enduring release date delays, hoping for footage to appear or even an official still from the movie to arrive, only to be forever left in the cold. But Warner Bros, finally Alfonso Cuaron's "Gravity" is to be released this fall, knows they have a captive audience, hence the teasing before the trailer drops tomorrow. We've already seen a few seconds of actual material from the movie and now comes the first poster to keep the excitement from boiling over.

Gravity trailer, Clooney
Alfonso Cuarón's long-awaited follow-up to 2006's "Children of Men"is finally here. Or at least the trailer is. Or wait, that's coming Thursday. So what do we have in the meantime? Well, it's about 10 seconds or less of teaser footage from the upcoming trailer for "Gravity," Cuarón's outer space thriller starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. Yes, you hate the tease of a tease. Understandably, so do we. But admittedly, this film has been in the works for so long now it is somewhat of a relief to finally see some evidence that it finally and actually exists.
