The well-oiled Marvel marketing machine has a number of now familiar steps. Runaways Drew Pearce
Exclusive: Earlier today we got a chance to chat with Drew Pearce, the British screenwriter who co-scripted last summer's "Iron Man 3," and who has written and directed a short follow-up of sorts, a Marvel One-Shot entitled "All Hail the King." We'll have more from that interview in anticipation of the short film's debut on the "Thor: The Dark World" Blu-ray at the end of the month, but while we were talking to Pearce, we had to ask him about the status of the project that brought him into the Marvel fold—an adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona's "Runaways." Surprisingly, it might not be as dead as we'd imagined.

As every comic fan on the planet pretty much guessed, the next Marvel One Shot short film, which will be arriving on the "Thor: The Dark World" Blu-ray, is "All Hail The King" and it will mark the return of the divisive Mandarin to the Marvel-verse. Played with glee by Ben Kingsley, some fans were upset when (spoilers) it turned out the super villain was actually Trevor Slattery, a rumpled aspiring actor doing nothing more than filling a role that was part of a master plan by Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce) (spoilers over). Mandarin wasn't a fearsome villain, just some guy with delusional dreams, roped into something criminal. And we'll be learning a lot more about him.

Welcome to 2014, and the more things change, the more they stay the same. In fact, our first post of year was the latest tease from "The Amazing Spider-Man 2," and considering some of the top grossing movies of 2013 were franchises and comic movies, it's not a surprise that today brings with it even more superhero news.
