Well, that's it: AMC has canceled their controversial series "The Killing." The studio has opted not to renew this Seattle-set crime drama for a third season. Are you surprised? Well, the writing was on the wall for a while, and we essentially called this one from the beginning of season two when we reviewed the premiere that prompted this piece: "Another Long Jerk Around & Why You Should Continue With [The Killing] At Your Own Peril."

Where does Mark Strong find the time? Since his face first became widely recognizable back in 2005/6 it seems he’s rarely been away from our screens, and usually in a mixture of high profile films and acclaimed smaller efforts. And audiences across the pond know that in 2006, Strong was also making his last appearance on the British miniseries “Low Winter Sun,” and it looks like it may be the same material that’s tempting him back to the small screen six years later.

If you never watched AMC’s crime drama “The Killing” last year, but heard a lot of the buzz and noise, let’s help you out. The narrative went like this: The pilot episode of the show -- an eerie mix of David Fincher “Seven” rain/gloom aesthetics and the “Twin Peaks”-like ominousness found in the Pacific Northwest -- received near universal acclaim from critics.

This one has been brewing for a while now. As early as 2009, word first emerged that a TV series based on Martin Scorsese's classic "GoodFellas" was in the works. Then, in the fall of 2010, that talk became much more real as Martin Scorsese came on board, joining the film's original producer, Irwin Winkler, in the behind the scenes talent, with Nicholas Pileggi writing the series. Well, one of cable's biggest networks right now is throwing their weight behind the series in what will likely be one of the most anticipated shows in quite some time.
