Currently retired from public life, whatever that means, Shia LaBeouf is either Hollywood's greatest enigma or best prankster. Or both. At any rate, after owning the Berlin Film Festival press conference for Lars von Trier's "Nymphomaniac," it looked like Shia was just gonna keep on truckin', working, making weird and possibly plagiarized art, and generally continue to upend whatever notions of decorum are affixed to young actors. But it seems he is taking a step back for a moment.

We'll say this...Bradley Cooper sure has embarrassment of talent who want to work with him. The actor has used his "The Hangover" bump to line up projects with a variety of esteemed filmmakers, with Cooper pairing up over the last couple years with Susanne Bier ("Serena"), Derek Cianfrance ("The Place Beyond The Pines"), David O. Russell ("Silver Linings Playbook," "American Hustle") and Cameron Crowe (the upcoming, untitled project that shoots this fall). And he was nearly about to cap it all off with Steven Spielberg, who was set to direct "American Sniper" this spring. But just a few months later he bounced out, however it seems one legend will replace another.

Bradley Cooper American Sniper, Spielberg
Usually known for moving with confidence from project to project and working at a prodigious rate, it would seem that Steven Spielberg can't settle on his next film. For a while, it looked as though that the blockbuster "Robopocalypse" would follow "Lincoln," but he put that on hold at the beginning of the year. Then this spring he put his name to "American Sniper," a project that seemed right up his alley with Bradley Cooper attached to star. But now it looks like he's not ready to direct that one either.

Bradley Cooper American Sniper, Spielberg
While Bradley Cooper semi-rocked the movie world last night by dropping out of the flailing western "Jane Got A Gun" due to "scheduling issues," he is getting right back on the proverbial horse and is now scratching Steven Spielberg off his bucket list of directors to work with.

After the overwhelming success of "The Fighter," it looked the bromance between David O. Russell and Mark Wahlberg that began with "Three Kings" and was followed up with "I Heart Huckabees" was as strong as ever, with the two immediately planning to reunite for an adaptation of "The Silver Linings Playbook."

Bradley Cooper had a bit of a rough 2011, seeing two tentpoles -- "The Crow" and "Paradise Lost" -- slip through the net, but the actor has some great things on the horizon. He's currently shooting the Depression-era drama "Serena" with Jennifer Lawrence, directed by Susanne Bier; he also features with Lawrence in David O. Russell's "The Silver Linings Playbook" which had a flashy showing for press in Cannes; he's got "The Place Beyond The Pines" with Ryan Gosling around the corner; he's up for a role in Woody Allen's next film, and he's shooting "The Hangover III" later this year. So in short, things are looking very good. And now Cooper is taking the next step in his career.
