Anchorman: The Legend Continues
Heading into "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues," the question shouldn't be whether or not the sequel can top the original, because the answer is already obvious: it can't. When "Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy" arrived, it was Will Ferrell's first stab at leading a movie on his own, and the box office results spoke to his multiplex popularity at the time: it was middling. But everyone knows the narrative by now, with 'Anchorman' catching much more fire on DVD, and becoming in the nine years since, nothing short of a relentlessly quotable contemporary comedy classic.

So has "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues" stopped with the shameless marketing and started focusing on the actual movie? It would seem that way. With just over a week before Ron Burgundy and his pals are back on the air, Paramount is shifting gears and starting to show more from the actual movie.

As we detailed yesterday with 15 examples, “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues” moves forward with its pervasive (or as one could say, “annoying”) marketing prowess, utilizing underwear, ice cream, and automobiles as venues on which to slap Ron Burgundy’s face. Paramount hasn’t blocked their usual routes for promoting a film though, so we’ve got a pair of new clips—one from the Adam McKay-directed sequel, one as a holiday exclusive message, and also a look at a Funny Or Die-produced mockumentary starring Will Ferrell, Tobey Maguire, and Kristen Wiig.

Anchorman: The Legend Continues
There is no “in case you’ve been living under a rock” in terms of the awareness level of "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues,” the long overdue sequel to 2004's "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy." If you’ve lived under said rock in the last month, chances are Will Ferrell, in full Ron Burgundy regalia, has lifted up your stone and convivially asked you the way to San Diego. It’s also very possible Ferrell/Burgundy asked you if you needed any underpants, ice cream or Scotch while he was down there on his knees messing up his well-tailored maroon-colored pants, all in the name of not-so-subtly enlightening you to the existence of "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.”

Anchorman: The Legend Continues
Is there such a thing as too much Ron Burgundy? The answer is apparently: "no." The relentless promo machine for "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues" shows no sign of stopping, with Will Ferrell literally travelling the globe with his suit and mustache never too far behind. And don't be fooled into thinking Thanksgiving stopped Ferrell from collecting air miles and bagging more hotel room soaps.

It's no secret that “Anchorman” represents an almost free-form comedic enterprise for director Adam McKay and Will Ferrell, able to shift and change form and purpose at will. Some are brilliant, like the alternate cut of the original, entitled “Wake Up Ron Burgundy”), some simply lackluster (the recent Dodge Durango tie-ins), but at least McKay and co. know their property. And as the sequel, “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues” nears its release next month to hopefully calm our fears once and for all, McKay has recently revealed his next game-changing spin-off.

Anchorman 2
The release of “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues” is just over a month away, and by now, fans of the first movie know that it was a long and winding road for the sequel to even enter production. We all know the first “Anchorman” wasn’t exactly a runaway hit when it was first released in the summer of 2004, but it still made a healthy profit. Even after the movie encountered great success in DVD sales, as well as the McKay/Ferrell duo’s subsequent films each crossing the $100 million mark in the box office, there was still some considerable push-back from Paramount Pictures when it came to a possible "Anchorman" sequel. As co-writer/director Adam McKay puts it, the primary issue for this was the film’s proposed budget.

Her, Joaquin Phoenix
November has rolled around, so it's officially that time of year: the holiday movie season. Both the L.A. Times and the New York Times have gotten deep into the action with great features in their movie sections which provide a heap of new photos from several highly anticipated movies. First up is a film we've already seen (read our NYFF review here), but one that's highly anticipated by many of us who haven't seen it nonetheless: Spike Jonze's "Her" (December 18th, in limited release), which features the stellar cast of Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams, Scarlett Johansson, Rooney Mara, Olivia Wilde and Chris Pratt.
