If you hadn’t heard of Brit Marling prior to 2011, you’re like most people – she was still a struggling unknown, trying to build a career as an artist using a degree in economics, and not much else. But within the past eleven months, the actress, screenwriter and director has made inroads to Hollywood in ways rivaled only by Jessica Chastain and Michael Fassbender: two films she co-wrote, “Another Earth” and “Sound of My Voice,” premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and were quickly snapped up by Fox Searchlight for distribution, while as an actress Marling found work sharing the screen with Richard Gere, Stanley Tucci, Susan Sarandon, and Shia LaBeouf, for directors of no less stature than Robert Redford. And speaking to The Playlist about the DVD release for “Another Earth,” it seems like she’s learned no shortage of lessons she’ll take with her going forward.

If you've paid any attention to movie news this year, you've undoubtedly heard the name Brit Marling. The actress, writer and producer was one of the darlings of the Sundance Film Festival in January, arriving with two films that both played to strong reviews: "Sound Of My Voice" directed by Zal Batmanglij and "Another Earth" helmed by Mike Cahill. No only did Marling star in both films, she co-wrote them as well, marking her as a unique talent to watch, not solely for the multiple hats she wears both in front and behind the camera, but for the original, unique concepts she helped dream up for these movies.

Marvel is doing the right thing with their superhero productions. They wisely didn’t break the bank after “Iron Man” did a little under $100 million in its opening weekend, instead opting for future adventures within their universe for around the same cost every time. Even with “The Avengers,” said to be the big kahuna in Marvel’s strategy, they kept costs down thanks to cheap multi-film contracts and economic micromanaging.

Ohhhh, Christopher Evans. Is Chris Evans 2011's Crush of the Year? Edgar Wright has a crush on him. GQ has a crush on him. And you know I wave my Chris Evans Crush Flag every day, readers. I mean, I suffered through THE SECOND FANTASTIC FOUR MOVIE FOR HIM. That is how I show my love. I watched "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer" in the theaters. Also, I saw "The Losers" in theaters and greatly enjoyed it. Yes, I know that this is The Playlist, but I will admit that here in that forum. I will also admit this: I had a dream last night that I was flying around in a space shuttle above LA with Chris Evans and January Jones. So yes, you could say I am looking forward to "Captain America" A LITTLE BIT. But this weekend brings us a Sophie's Choice: everyone's other universal crush Justin Timberlake has a new movie in theaters! And "Bad Teacher" is still playing! Timberlake in glasses! 2 much Timberlake 2 choose. And he possibly shows his bum in "Friends With Benefits." Even the straight men want to see that! Guys, what are we going to do?! Blah blah there are also some other movies playing if you hate beautiful men.

EXCLUSIVE: There is perhaps no greater Cinderella story this year on the indie circuit than that of actress, writer and producer Brit Marling. Arriving at Sundance with two films, "Another Earth" and "Sound Of Your Voice," performing triple duties on each film, she soon saw major buzz surround both works, with Fox Searchlight picking up rights for the pair, and the former flick earning two prizes for director Mike Cahill. Certainly not a bad way to make your entrance into Hollywood. In this week's "Another Earth," rising star Brit Marling plays Rhoda, a troubled young woman who is released from prison after serving a sentence for a fatal drunk driving incident. She eventually comes into the life of the grieving father John (William Mapother) whose child she killed all while the rest of the world deals with a mirror version of Earth appearing in the sky, hidden behind the Sun. Marling, who co-wrote the film with director Mike Cahill, has become a major personality in the indie film world with both "Another Earth" and "Sound Of My Voice" (also co-written by, and starring Marling) surprising both the arthouse and genre fans as they've done the festival rounds. "Another Earth" walked away from Sundance this year with a distribution deal with Fox Searchlight and two prizes for director Mike Cahill.
